HISTORY
Gerbil is pronounced " jur-bill " ( in case you didn't know how to say it. =] Also they are rodents that come from the genus Meriones, the family " Muridae" and finially the sub-family Gerbillinae in which the gerbil got it's name from.
Gerbils first came from desert area of Mongolia, making them a warm climate creature. ( From experience I got that they are happiest in summer time without air conditioner. Or if your heat is 65 or about in your hour durring the cold winter months. ) The gerbils was used for a lot of laboratory studies in Japan in the 1930's. The scientific view on them has made the gerbil a very vaulble animal for both medical and psychological research. In 1952 Dr. Herbert R. Axelrod brought a colony of Gerbils to the United States for the developement as experiental laboratory animals.
Back in the 1950's when the gerbil first came to the United States of America they were the sandie brown, white bellied, black eyed kind. Argente. Most all the gerbils look the same, but now from selective breeding they now come in a large veriety of colors, markings, and sizes. Some are the original coloring ( Argente ) or Black, but now you can find them in many different shades of gray, tan, cream, brown, and with many different marking too. Such as spotted, pied, solid or white bellied, and even siamese. They have also long since became a house hold pet to many families and are often used in class rooms for their tame, friendly, good tempered nature.

ABOUT OUR GERBILS
Are gerbils are all friendly very tamed animals. All of our pups have been hand raised from birth and have never bitten any one. Our males and females live in same sex comunities to prevent over breeding as this gives us the chance to selectively breed when we want to. The only male & female tank we own is Jack & his wife Timber. They are two gerbils that just can not get a long with any of the other gerbils, so we leave them to be with each other and usually they will have 3-4 pups every 6-8 weeks. These pups are almost always dove gray ( like their mother) or light tan. You can check back to see when they have the pups and to see when they've reached the sale page.
We breed our gerbils for color and good temperment. The tamest female to our tamest male ( Timothy - our stud and some day Stormy) and we've had great success! His pups are beautiful and are non-aggressive. They will even fall a sleep in your hand! They love to be out of the tank and do really well with one another when in the tank! We have only a few females that we breed because of their coloring such as Jenna, Alexis, and hopefully Sasha in the near future. The others we own for their beautiful coloring, sweetness, and awesome personalities, being that no two gerbils are the same.
